STARLUX Airlines plans to connect Taipei Taoyuan (TPE), Sydney (SYD) and Auckland (AKL) in 2027. Sydney Airport announced on June 2, 2026, that Sydney would be the carrier's first Australian destination, with an onward service to Auckland.
In an Executive Traveller report published on October 1, STARLUX Chief Strategy Officer Simon Liu said the route would use the Airbus A330neo, starting with four to five weekly flights and gradually increasing to daily. A launch date, timetable and ticket-sale arrangements remain to be announced. The public information reviewed does not confirm a second-quarter 2027 launch.
The planned Taipei–Auckland journey includes a stop in Sydney and should not be understood as a nonstop service. Stopover duration, disembarkation requirements and onward boarding procedures remain subject to the published schedule and passenger guidance.
The report also indicates that STARLUX intends to attract Sydney–Auckland passengers alongside its through traffic, competing with operators including Qantas and Air New Zealand. Selling this sector separately would involve fifth-freedom traffic rights, allowing an airline to carry passengers between two foreign countries on a service originating or ending in its home country, subject to the relevant rights and approvals.
STARLUX recruitment listings for Auckland operations are visible on New Zealand job platform SEEK, indicating preparations for a local team. These listings alone do not establish that an office has formally opened. Office details, opening dates and final route arrangements await further airline announcements.
