Under the agreement announced on October 28, 2026, Singapore Airlines will buy up to 4,800 tons of next-generation sustainable aviation fuel from Aether Fuels over three years, with deliveries starting in 2028. The deal makes Singapore Airlines the first airline to buy SAF from Project Beacon, Aether's first commercial production facility, located at the Pulau Bukom refining complex in Singapore. It is also Singapore Airlines' first purchase of SAF made with waste-carbon-to-jet-fuel technology, and it builds on a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides in 2025.
Project Beacon will use biomethane and industrial waste gases as feedstocks and Aether's proprietary Aurora technology to produce SAF, using a Fischer-Tropsch-based process to convert waste gases into liquid aviation fuel. That offers an alternative to the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids pathway, which accounts for most SAF production today but depends on limited lipid feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal fats. The fuel will be certified under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, and Aether plans to scale up further, aiming to open its first large commercial plant by 2031 with at least 10 times Project Beacon's capacity. For Singapore Airlines, the agreement is part of its ambition to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
