Jet2 has retired a 29‑year‑old Boeing 737‑800 (registration G‑GDFD), ending the service life of the world’s oldest aircraft of that type.

The jet performed its final commercial flight LS644 on 18 October, flying from Ibiza to East Midlands Airport (EMA), then was ferried to Manchester the same day for de‑branding ahead of its return to the lessor.

The airframe, MSN 27982, was the second 737‑800 prototype and has logged more than 80,000 flight hours. Jet2 is simultaneously introducing Airbus A321neos, having taken delivery of its 30th neo this summer under a firm order for 155 aircraft.
