Embraer announced on October 7 that the first Gripen E assembled in Brazil completed its maiden flight at Gavião Peixoto. A Saab test pilot checked the aircraft's main systems and flight characteristics. Registered FAB 4109 and designated F-39E by the Brazilian Air Force, the jet now enters production flight testing and acceptance before delivery.

It is the first of fifteen Gripen E aircraft to be produced locally under the existing contract. The original 2014 agreement covers thirty-six fighters, comprising twenty-eight single-seat E models and eight two-seat F models. Brazil and Sweden are also negotiating a further twenty aircraft, but their discussions and industrial framework are distinct from a finalized additional order.
