American Airlines Flight AA37 diverted from its Madrid (MAD)–Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) route to New York JFK on October 6 after six of eight Boeing 777 lavatories stopped working. The flight carried 275 passengers and twelve crew members, leaving only two working toilets. The FAA confirmed insufficient available lavatories prompted the diversion.

American told AeroTime that the aircraft landed normally and continued to Dallas after a maintenance inspection. The airline has not explained the failures. The crew made a PAN-PAN urgency call, which should not be described as a loss-of-control event. Plumbing problems on unrelated flights do not establish that passenger misuse caused this incident.
