Several European countries are considering giving critical-infrastructure operators and contractors broader powers to counter drones, including measures traditionally reserved for state authorities. Governments still need to resolve who may respond to a drone threat and what liability could follow if a downed drone causes injury or property damage.

In August, France passed a law allowing infrastructure operators and contractors to detect, jam and shoot down drones near designated facilities. France also wants an updated list of sensitive sites vital to national security to be equipped with counter-drone systems by 2027. Details have not been made public.
