The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved Bombardier's flagship Global 8000 business jet for operations at London City Airport (LCY). Announced on September 10, the clearance allows the ultra-long-range jet direct access to the airport located near London's central financial district.
The Global 8000 features a published range of 8,000 nautical miles and a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.95. London City Airport requires aircraft to navigate a steep 5.5-degree approach angle compared to the standard 3-degree glide slope, along with a short runway measuring approximately 1,508 metres.
Under regulatory provisions, Global 8000 operators must secure steep-approach supplement approval from the aviation authority in their aircraft's state of registration and satisfy London City Airport's specific operational requirements before performing flights at the airport.
