According to Simple Flying, Qantas plans to end a 16-hour nonstop Airbus A380 route within one month. The decision is driven by softened demand in the economy cabin, which prompted the carrier to swap the superjumbo for more flexible Boeing 787-9 capacity. Demand for premium cabins on the route remains firm.
In previous schedule updates, Qantas scheduled its final Airbus A380 flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles for October 24, opting to utilize the Boeing 787-9 on that route. The airline also announced in August 2026 that it is bringing forward the retirement of its Airbus A380 fleet to 2028 from the fiscal year 2032.
