Germany to Deploy Four Eurofighters to Latvia for Airspace Protection During Election

Germany will deploy four Eurofighter jets to Lielvārde Air Base in central Latvia for about a week from late September to early October 2026, to help protect Latvian airspace during the country's parliamentary election on October 3, 2026, AeroTime reported.

According to the German Federal Ministry of Defense, the Latvian government asked allies for air defense support to ensure the election could be held safely, citing repeated drone violations of airspace over the Baltic states in recent weeks and months.

The ministry said, 'Germany stands reliably by the side of its allies that are particularly exposed on the eastern flank.'

The aircraft will come from Tactical Air Wing 74 based in Neuburg an der Donau. The ministry described the detachment as small, numbering in the mid-double digits, but did not give exact arrival or departure dates.
