U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy traveled to Texas to celebrate the state's first demonstration of next-generation aircraft under the U.S. Department of Transportation's Advanced Air Mobility Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). With this official launch at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW), Texas becomes the sixth location across the United States to participate in the federal initiative aimed at advancing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOLs), air taxis, and autonomous aircraft systems.

The eIPP initiative establishes real-world testing environments designed to accelerate the development of advanced aviation technology while gathering critical operational data. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will utilize performance data collected from demonstration flights in Texas and other nationwide testing locations to formulate new regulatory frameworks that safely enable commercial electric vertical flight operations at scale.

Under the Texas eIPP program, state officials and industry developers have partnered to establish regional aerial transport networks. The initiative brings together BETA Technologies, Joby Aviation, and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to plan and evaluate regional air taxi connections between key metropolitan areas, including Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and eventually Houston.

Operational evaluations include specific multi-airport test flights to measure integration into active airspace. Joby's aircraft is scheduled to conduct a roundtrip test flight connecting Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), providing real-world data on flight procedures between major aviation facilities.

Alongside passenger transit concepts, the program evaluates cargo and emergency logistics applications. BETA Technologies is collaborating with local partners in Texas to conduct test flights involving cargo movement, medical supply delivery, disaster response assistance, and offshore operations. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford noted that leveraging test data from these diverse operations remains essential to ensuring the safe integration of next-generation aircraft into national airspace.
