Algeria has closed its airspace to all civilian and military aircraft registered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting midnight on September 11, 2026. The move follows the Algerian government's decision on September 10, 2026, to sever diplomatic relations with the UAE.
According to the Algerian Ministry of Defense, the airspace closure exempts commercial civilian UAE flights arriving at and departing from Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers. This exemption will remain in effect until the expiration of the current contract at the end of 2026.
Previously, in February 2026, Algeria notified the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority that it would terminate the 2013 air services agreement. FlightAware data indicates that the last Emirates flight between Dubai and Algiers occurred in March 2026, with no other UAE airlines currently operating flights to Algeria.
