Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) announced today that it has formed the Waste Plastic Packaging Conversion Circular Light Oil Demonstration Alliance with Chi Mei Industrial, FamilyMart, Taiwan Chips, Vicome, China Airlines, and pyrolysis oil supplier Poseidon Global, to establish a demonstration model for converting waste plastic packaging into circular petrochemical feedstock.
ITRI Materials and Chemical Research Laboratories Director Chiu Kuo-chan said the institute has developed high-efficiency adsorption materials and catalyst technologies that upgrade plastic cracking oil into circulating light oil meeting petrochemical feedstock specifications, with a carbon reduction of about 50% compared to incineration power generation.
Chiu noted that the alliance aims to verify the feasibility of the polyolefin circular industry model and build a cross-industry circular supply chain.
China Airlines Sustainability Officer Eric Cheng said the company hopes to support resource circulation, energy transition and climate action by participating in the alliance.
