United Airlines is adding Okinawa as its sixth destination in Japan as part of its largest international expansion. The carrier plans to operate a thrice-weekly Boeing 777 service to directly link the Ryukyu islands.

With this new route, United becomes the only North American airline to offer direct flights to the Ryukyu islands. The thrice-weekly service expands the carrier's overall Japanese destination network.

According to Simple Flying, the addition of Okinawa strengthens direct connectivity for the carrier in Japan. The Boeing 777 widebody service marks United's sixth Japanese destination in its ongoing international route expansion.
