A mobile battery smoked on a Hong Kong Express flight from Hong Kong bound for Jeju, injuring one passenger. Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters received a report at around 6:22 a.m. on October 25 that a passenger had been burned after a mobile battery heated up and smoked on the Hong Kong Express aircraft scheduled to land at Jeju International Airport (CJU); the aircraft was still in flight when the report was made.

There were 243 people on board, including 236 passengers and seven crew members. Fire authorities arrived at Jeju International Airport at around 6:32 a.m. and stood by until the aircraft landed. According to headquarters, a Chinese woman in her 50s had stored the mobile battery in a bag under her seat; smoke came from the battery, and she burned her left thumb while taking it out.

The crew immediately placed the smoking battery into the aircraft's heat-resistant containment bag for battery fires and immersed it in water. After fire authorities confirmed there was no further fire risk inside the cabin, the injured passenger received first aid; she declined transport and said she would go to a hospital on her own.
