US startup Cosmic Aerospace, based in Denver, has outlined development plans for its Cosmic One four-seat all-electric aircraft. According to the company, the prototype is scheduled to make its maiden flight in 2028, with commercial customer deliveries targeted to begin in 2029. The initial 100 production aircraft will form a designated Founder Series, after which serial production is expected to continue beyond the initial batch to serve private aircraft owners, flight clubs, and pilot training providers.
The company's program timeline aligns with the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Modernisation of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) regulatory framework. The MOSAIC rules expand certification parameters within the Light Sport Aircraft category by removing previous weight restrictions, raising the maximum airspeed limit to 250 knots, permitting four-seat cabin configurations, and allowing alternative propulsion systems necessary for commercial electric aircraft qualification.
Commercial traction for Cosmic One includes flying club Centennial Flyers signing as the launch fleet customer for the platform, alongside initial financial deposits collected from private owner-operators within approximately three weeks of the aircraft's initial product launch. Cosmic Aerospace reported additional interest from other fleet operators seeking to transition away from legacy piston-engine general aviation platforms toward electric aircraft.
Cosmic Aerospace leadership emphasized that Cosmic One serves both as a general aviation commercial product and as a technological foundation. Operating and certifying the four-seat aircraft is intended to validate the company's electric propulsion stack while establishing essential manufacturing processes, supply chains, and regulatory certification experience required prior to developing its larger Skylark electric regional airliner project.
