Qatar Airways has officially debuted the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9 passenger aircraft into commercial service. The milestone entry into service officially brings the Doha-based carrier’s total number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft to 150, further expanding high-speed satellite in-flight connectivity across its extensive international route network.

The debut of the Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9 follows the successful completion of the satellite internet rollout across the airline's Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet within a seven-month period. Qatar Airways confirmed that its installation schedule remains fully on track to complete Starlink installations across its entire Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026.

This latest Boeing 787 milestone follows a series of accelerated installation programs across Qatar Airways' widebody operational fleet. The airline previously finished its Boeing 777 Starlink fleet rollout within nine months and completed its Airbus A350 fleet rollout within eight months, establishing what it describes as the world's largest Starlink-equipped fleets of Boeing 777, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787 aircraft.

Since initially launching Starlink connectivity onboard its flights in October 2024, Qatar Airways has observed rapid passenger adoption of the technology. According to data provided by the carrier, more than 23 million passengers have connected to the high-speed satellite Wi-Fi system across more than 86,000 flights operated to date.

With the latest installations, Qatar Airways' Starlink program has now surpassed an 83% completion rate across its entire widebody aircraft fleet, with up to 323 Starlink-equipped flights currently operating each day. The satellite Wi-Fi system offers connectivity speeds of up to 500 Mbps, giving passengers the ability to stream content, perform work, or stay connected while airborne, accessible through the airline's Privilege Club membership authentication process.
