Somalia's flag carrier Somali Airlines plans to resume operations in September 2026, ending a 35-year hiatus; Somali Civil Aviation Authority director Ahmed Moalin said on Saturday that preparations for the relaunch have been completed and flights are expected to begin next month.

The Somali government acquired two Airbus A320s in July 2025 as part of efforts to relaunch the national airline; Somali Airlines was established in 1964, four years after independence, and operated until the collapse of the central government in 1991.

The government has previously announced plans to revive Somali Airlines but missed earlier targets for restarting operations, including a 2023 target and a 2025 end-of-year target.

Currently, Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) is served by international airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.
