On August 15, 2026, the world’s only airworthy de Havilland DH.88 Comet (registration G-ACSS, named "Grosvenor House") was substantially damaged after flipping over during a landing accident at Old Warden Aerodrome in Bedfordshire, United Kingdom.

The accident occurred at approximately 19:20 local time during an air display. The aircraft bounced slightly and flipped onto its back. Emergency services extracted the pilot, who was hospitalized for assessment and later discharged. An Avro Lysander scheduled to land afterward was diverted to nearby Duxford Airfield.

The UK Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation into the cause. The historic aircraft famously won the 1934 MacRobertson air race from England to Australia.
