Brussels Airlines announced on August 17, 2026, that it will significantly increase capacity to Europe's far north during the 2026/27 winter season. The Belgian flag carrier is launching scheduled service between its base at Brussels-Zaventem Airport and three Arctic destinations. These destinations comprise Eve (EVE)nes , near northern Norway's Lofoten archipelago, Kem (KEM)i in Finland near the Swedish border at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia, and Kittilä (KTT), a gateway to Finnish Lapland.
The airline outlined specific seasonal flight schedules for the three new Nordic routes. The service connecting Brussels to Kittilä is scheduled to run three times weekly between December 10, 2026, and March 27, 2027. The route to Kemi will operate twice weekly from Christmas Day 2026 through March 10, 2027. Finally, flights to Evenes will operate once per week specifically during February and March 2027.
According to Brussels Airlines, expanding into these northern destinations responds to rising passenger demand for unique winter landscapes, unspoilt nature, and Northern Lights viewing opportunities. Over recent years, multiple European airlines have expanded services to the Nordic region, shifting from seasonal, Santa Claus-focused family travel to a broader travel niche. Brussels Airlines operates as part of the Lufthansa Group, whose member airlines operated up to 69 weekly flights during winter months as of March 2026 between Western and Central Europe and destinations near the Arctic Circle.
Alongside Brussels Airlines, German flag carrier Lufthansa is launching a new nonstop service between Munich (MUC) and Rovaniemi (RVN), while adding a second weekly frequency between Munich and Kittilä . Frankfurt will see increased frequencies to both Rovaniemi and Kuusamo (KAO) in Lapland. Additionally, Tromso (TOS (TOS)) in northern Norway will receive two additional frequencies connecting to both Frankfurt and Munich.
