Qatar Airways is deploying an Airbus A350-900 on its Doha to Bahrain service on 12 and 13 August. The sector covers approximately 90 miles, or 80 nautical miles, representing one of the shortest commercial operations in the history of the A350 aircraft type.
Other operators also deploy the A350 on short flights. Ethiopian Airlines operates a 60-mile leg between Geneva and Lyon, marking the shortest scheduled A350 service. Additionally, Singapore Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines use A350-900s between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, while Japan Airlines operates its fleet on domestic routes from Tokyo Haneda to Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.
For ultra-long-haul missions, Airbus developed the A350-1000ULR for Qantas' Project Sunrise initiative. As part of the flight test programme, the manufacturer flew a test aircraft from Europe to Australia last month.
