Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has announced that Vietjet Air will begin operating passenger flights to Ho Chi Minh City starting in January 2027. The announcement marks the Vietnamese low-cost carrier's official entry into Sydney's newest international airport gateway ahead of its scheduled passenger opening later this year.
According to WSI, Vietjet will operate two weekly services to Ho Chi Minh City beginning in January 2027, before increasing frequency to three weekly flights by March 2027. The service will be operated using Vietjet's Airbus A330 aircraft, which seat 377 passengers. Scheduled flights will arrive at WSI at 10:00 local time and depart for Ho Chi Minh City at 12:05 local time.
Additionally, Vietjet's joint venture airline, Vietjet Thailand, plans to launch four weekly services between WSI and Bangkok starting in November 2027, subject to regulatory approval. One-way fares for the January Ho Chi Minh City flights start at AU$299 (US$212), with tickets officially going on sale on August 10, 2026, ahead of Lunar New Year travel in early February.
The new Ho Chi Minh City flights receive support from the New South Wales state government via the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, an initiative created to attract airlines and strengthen the state's international route network. Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King stated that the route represents Vietjet's fifth Australian destination as testing and terminal preparations continue at WSI.
Vietjet CEO Nguyen Thanh Son noted that the airline is pleased to become one of the first operators at WSI as it expands its international network. WSI Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey highlighted that Western Sydney is home to more than 70,000 Vietnamese residents, who will gain direct connections to Ho Chi Minh City and onward destinations.
