Tier-1 aerospace supplier Diehl Aviation has officially opened a new aircraft component production facility in Craiova, Romania, adding another site to its European manufacturing network for commercial aviation components. Developed in cooperation with project partner Global Vision, the new site is designed to expand the company's overall manufacturing capacity and support customer production ramp-ups across its global network.
Located in Romania's Dolj region, the facility encompasses over 12,000 square meters of production and office space built on a 33,500-square-meter plot. Constructed in less than a year, Diehl Aviation described the project's financial backing as a mid-double-digit million euro investment, without disclosing an exact figure.
Production at the Craiova site is scheduled to commence in fall 2026, starting with an initial workforce of approximately 75 employees. Diehl Aviation plans to progressively scale up the facility's workforce to as many as 500 personnel over the medium term, with the site specifically designed with extra space to accommodate potential future operational expansion.
The Craiova plant will manufacture products already established within Diehl Aviation's network, including manually laminated composite cabin components, insulation blankets, and tanks for aircraft water and waste systems. To maintain consistent quality standards and transfer technical know-how from existing operations, employee training in aerospace manufacturing, quality management, and safety requirements began in February 2026 ahead of the opening.
In terms of sustainability and energy infrastructure, the building and its manufacturing equipment run entirely on electricity, completely eliminating natural gas from the site's energy mix. A rooftop solar system is currently being installed to further increase the share of renewable electricity used at the facility. The new Romanian site joins Diehl Aviation's active production operations in Germany, Hungary, and Mexico.
