Vietravel Airlines signed an agreement to purchase 50 Airbus aircraft on September 10, 2026, during a bilateral summit in Paris. The commitment includes 20 A220s and 30 Airbus A321 (ICAO type code A321) aircraft. The carrier stated that it expects the A321 portion of the deal to comprise both A321neo and A321XLR variants, with initial deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.
On the same day, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the proposed acquisition of five A350-900 widebody aircraft. Deliveries for the A350-900 jets are expected between 2033 and 2034. According to the airline, the MoU supports its broader fleet development strategy to acquire 30 widebody aircraft beyond 2030 to meet growing international travel demand.
The signing ceremonies took place at the Élysée Palace in Paris during a summit meeting between Vietnamese President To Lam and French President Emmanuel Macron aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation. Senior representatives attending the ceremony included Do Quang Hien, founder and CEO of T&T Group, which owns Vietravel Airlines, and Wouter van Wersch, chairman of Airbus International.
Vietravel Airlines noted that selecting both the A220 and A321neo fits its long-term network vision. The carrier plans to deploy the A220 on new direct routes to underserved regional destinations, while using the larger A321neos for higher-demand and longer international routes. According to ch-aviation data, Vietravel currently operates four A321-200s and a single Airbus A320 (ICAO type code A320).
Vietnam Airlines currently operates 14 A350-900 widebody aircraft and 16 Boeing 787 Dreamliners as part of its long-haul fleet. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft, expressed confidence that the long-haul capabilities and operational efficiency of the A350-900 will support Vietnam Airlines' plans to expand its international route network in the coming years.
