United Airlines has canceled a planned flyover in Denver marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks following feedback from the local community. Denver's Office of Emergency Management confirmed the cancellation on September 9, 2026. The proposed formation was scheduled to feature a United Boeing 777 escorted by four Colorado Air National Guard F-16 fighters over the airline's Denver Flight Training Center during a private employee memorial.
Despite suspending the flyover, United Airlines confirmed that other planned remembrance events will proceed as scheduled. The carrier intends to unveil a 9-foot-11-inch monument constructed from World Trade Center steel at its training facility to honor the crews of United Flights 175 and 93. Additionally, employees from both United Airlines and American Airlines plan to observe moments of silence at Denver International Airport (DEN).
