Germany's Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation published interim report BFU26-0757-AX on September 28, 2026. On July 29, a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 bound for Hanoi overran Munich runway 26L, became airborne from the grass and struck 20 approach lights.

Recorded data show brake commands beginning about three seconds after takeoff thrust was set, peaking at roughly 27% on the left and 17% on the right. Airspeed remained near 168 knots for about 18 seconds and rotation began at about 163 knots. The flight carried 271 passengers, 12 cabin crew and four pilots; nobody was injured.

The BFU classified the aircraft as having sustained damage affecting structural integrity and said the investigation remains in progress. The interim report is a factual update: it does not determine the origin of the brake commands or assign a cause or responsibility.
