Federal Aviation Administration chief Bryan Bedford said on September 28, 2026 that certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 10 would remain on hold until a software issue affecting an automated-navigation function was resolved. The issue concerns a specific approach and landing scenario.

Boeing said in July that the 737-10 had completed its final planned certification flight, but completion of flight testing is not type certification. The FAA has not given a revised approval date and the software change still requires verification.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on September 30 that officials did not currently view the issue as a safety concern for the in-service 737 MAX fleet. That statement does not constitute MAX 10 approval; the schedule still depends on the FAA's review of Boeing's fix.
