The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) announced on August 21, 2026, that the majority of its unionized Boeing employees have voted to reject a new contract offer presented by the planemaker. The union confirmed that voting members overwhelmingly authorized leadership to call strike action if subsequent negotiations with Boeing do not produce significant improvements to the proposed agreement.

Detailed voting results released by SPEEA showed that 64% of members in the professional unit voted against the agreement, with 11,339 members casting ballots. In the technical unit, 71% of the 3,909 voting members rejected the offer. Furthermore, nearly 90% of participating members across both bargaining sectors voted to authorize the union to press ahead with industrial action if necessary.

Presented earlier in August 2026, the four-year proposal applied to approximately 13,000 engineers and scientists as well as around 4,000 technical personnel. SPEEA stated that the membership's votes demonstrated that the proposed contract terms fell short of expectations, reinforcing the union's position that formal negotiations with Boeing management must continue.

According to SPEEA, thousands of represented staff continue to express deep distrust toward Boeing leadership due to workplace experiences. Specific concerns identified by the union include the erosion and offshoring of bargaining-unit jobs, schedule priorities taking precedence over quality and safety, technical decisions being overruled or ignored, and salary growth failing to match inflation and aerospace job market trends.

In preparation for upcoming discussions with the employer, SPEEA has distributed a feedback survey to its membership to define the required terms for any future contract offer. The survey is scheduled to remain open until August 26, 2026, with the union's negotiation team committing to pursue an offer that reflects all represented voices.
