Volotea has filed a preconcurso notice with Barcelona Commercial Court No. 9, opening a preliminary period for negotiations with creditors. The Spanish process gives the company room to negotiate while management remains in control and is not the same as entering formal insolvency proceedings.
The airline says flight operations remain normal and it aims to complete a debt-restructuring and recapitalization plan by December 2026. Volotea says fuel costs have created an impact of about EUR150 million.
The plan includes reducing the fleet from 44 aircraft to roughly 30–35 and lowering costs. Specific aircraft exits and final financing terms remain subject to the negotiations.
