Boeing announced on September 29, 2026 that the U.S. Navy had awarded it the F/A-XX aircraft contract. The company described the award as multibillion-dollar without specifying an exact value.
The sixth-generation fighter is intended to replace the Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet fleet. Contractor selection does not constitute aircraft delivery or entry into service.
The award follows Boeing’s selection for the U.S. Air Force’s F-47 program in 2025. Boeing said technical and programmatic details of F/A-XX remain classified under U.S. national security and export laws.
