ACI EUROPE, Amadeus, the International Air Transport Association, IDEMIA and SITA announced the Responsible Biometrics Travel Industry Coalition on October 1, 2026. The group is asking the European Union to provide a workable biometric-travel framework through its Digital Omnibus work.

Its principles include voluntary participation, a non-biometric alternative, data minimization and deletion, and technology neutrality. The coalition argues that passengers should be able to use a digital identity across multiple airport processes while retaining privacy and choice.

The manifesto is an industry policy proposal, not enacted EU law. Any implementation remains subject to EU legislative and regulatory decisions.
