Corendon scheduled flight XR456 was operating from Corfu (CFU) to Nuremberg (NUE). While en route, the aircraft transmitted squawk code 7500, associated in the report with a hijacking alert. Eurofighter Typhoons were scrambled to intercept the flight and escort it to the airport.
Corendon said the aircraft briefly transmitted the emergency code at around 09:00 UTC because of a malfunction in its radio communication system. The airline said there was no emergency during the flight and that passengers, crew and aircraft were never in danger. The report said the aircraft landed safely shortly after 10:00 UTC, with no harm to passengers or crew.
