London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) says more than 40 airlines are currently seeking access to its slots, as calls for expansion and a third runway intensify. Airport management said on October 12, 2026, that demand for access continues to exceed available capacity. It said this is forcing airlines to choose competing hubs overseas and taking connectivity, trade and growth opportunities away from the UK.

Heathrow argued that a larger airport would create space for new airlines and routes, increase competition and drive down fares for consumers. A Heathrow spokesperson also said airlines and airports across the UK want the airport to expand at pace to improve connectivity and enable growth.
