A National Day show at Taipei 101 began at 10pm on 10 October under the theme "Onward Taiwan," combining fireworks, building lighting and laser beams, according to Central News Agency reporting. The report said the full display ran about 14 minutes and used 600 drones, opening with one minute of fireworks, followed by a 10-minute drone main show and closing with three minutes of fireworks.
Taipei 101 said the National Day show is in its third year and is jointly organised by Taipei 101 and the Taipei City Government, with Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding as exclusive sponsor. Taipei 101 chairperson Janet Chia said the team hoped to turn a spirit of breaking through into the light of the show, and that this year's theme aimed to convey democracy and freedom.
According to the report, the drone formations presented images in sequence, including "world spotlight," "thoughts growing," "taro meets freedom," "moving forward together" and "freedom and happiness." After the drone segment, three minutes of fireworks closed the show with music.
Before the display, mascots of the three organisers, Taipei 101, the Taipei City Government and Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding, appeared from 9:15pm to 9:30pm to interact with the public. Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding general manager Lin Wei-chun said the company had been the exclusive sponsor of the Taipei 101 National Day show for two consecutive years.
