China Airlines has announced that tickets issued from Oct 16 this year will be subject to adjusted excess baggage fees and pre-purchased baggage fees, with increases of roughly 10 percent to 30 percent, and pet carriage fees will also be adjusted.

The carrier said in written remarks that it reviews charges for ancillary services in line with market conditions, and that the adjustments to excess baggage fees, pre-purchased baggage fees and pet carriage fees apply to tickets issued from Oct 16. The fee standards are available on the China Airlines website for passengers to check.

According to the airline's announcement, excess baggage fees for Taiwan services to Zone 1 (Japan, South Korea, Palau, Guam, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia) rise from US$140 (NT$4,494) to US$160 (about NT$5,136), an increase of about 14.29 percent.

Excess baggage fees for Zone 2 (Australia, New Zealand, India and others) rise from US$170 (NT$5,457) to US$210 (NT$6,741), an increase of 23.53 percent; Zone 3 (Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Vancouver, Phoenix, Hawaii, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna, Rome, London, Prague, the Middle East and others) also sees an increase of about 20 percent.

For pre-purchased baggage fees, increases vary by route and reach as much as 30 percent. Taiwan services to Zone 1 (Japan and South Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau, China and others) rise from US$126 (about NT$4,044) to US$152 (about NT$4,879), an increase of 20.63 percent.

Zone 2 (Australia, New Zealand, India and others) sees pre-purchased baggage fees rise from US$153 (NT$4,911) to US$200 (NT$6,420), an increase of 30.72 percent; Zone 3 (North American long-haul routes such as Los Angeles and New York, and European long-haul routes such as Amsterdam and Frankfurt) rises from US$180 (NT$5,778) to US$228 (about NT$7,319), an increase of 26.67 percent.

China Airlines previously raised excess baggage fees, pre-purchased additional checked baggage fees and oversized baggage fees on Jan 26 this year. The items being raised from Oct 16 cover excess baggage fees, pre-purchased baggage fees and pet carriage fees.
