According to Aerospace Global News, a flydubai flight from Dubai (DXB) to Tel Aviv (TLV) was diverted to Saudi Arabia on 30 September following a violent incident involving its pilots.

According to Israeli officials cited by the outlet, the co-pilot attempted to crash the aircraft, although investigators have yet to establish the full sequence of events aboard Flight FZ1073.

The report said the incident prompted renewed discussion about how airlines manage potential threats from inside the flight deck, citing the 2015 Germanwings crash and a 2023 incident in which an off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot allegedly tried to shut down engines.

The report also noted the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) finalized a rule in June 2023 requiring an Installed Physical Secondary Barrier (IPSB) on certain new passenger aircraft.
