Fiji Airways has announced the launch of direct scheduled flights between Nadi International Airport (NAN) and Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), making it the first international airline to connect Fiji with Sydney's new airport. The new international service is scheduled to commence on March 19, 2027.
The route will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays utilizing the airline's Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. According to the carrier, this service will add more than 53,000 annual seats between the two destinations, providing significant additional passenger capacity.
Under the announced schedule, Flight FJ 991 will depart Nadi International Airport at 19:10 local time and arrive at Western Sydney International Airport at 22:55 local time. The return flight, FJ 990, will depart WSI at 23:55 local time and land back in Nadi at 04:55 local time the following morning.
The airline noted that the early morning arrival time in Nadi is designed to facilitate convenient onward connections within Fiji, as well as to international destinations across its broader network including Tonga and Samoa.
The new service to Western Sydney will complement Fiji Airways' existing twice-daily services between Nadi and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). Once active, the route will expand the airline's total operational capacity between Fiji and the Greater Sydney region to up to three flights daily.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Paul Scurrah highlighted that Western Sydney is home to one of the largest Fijian communities outside Fiji. He noted that the new route will strengthen travel connections for family and friends while supporting continued growth in regional tourism.
