Seven Indonesian airports, including Jakarta's main gateways Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP), remained closed on Monday, September 7, 2026. The closures followed eruptions from the Anak Krakatau volcano, which sent volcanic ash into airspace used by commercial aircraft, making flying unsafe.
Indonesia's Transport Ministry reported that the ongoing volcanic activity has affected around 2,300 flights and 270,337 passengers through cancellations, delays, and diversions since September 5, 2026. Other affected facilities remaining closed include Radin Inten II, Budiarto, Pondok Cabe, Muhammad Taufiq Kiemas, and Husein Sastranegara airports, while Atung Bungsu Airport reopened on Monday morning.
