Satellite imagery released following Ukraine's drone attack on Russia's Sochi Airport (AER) on September 4, 2026, appears to show two Russian attack helicopters destroyed and a third helicopter damaged at the facility's military flight line. Open-source assessments identified the destroyed aircraft as a Kamov Ka-52 and a Mil Mi-28, along with a damaged Mi-8-family helicopter.
The attack also struck nearby fuel-storage facilities, causing a fire that Russian authorities later acknowledged. Civilian flight operations at Sochi Airport were severely disrupted, with activities restricted for more than 11 hours, leading to numerous flight delays, cancellations, and diversions, alongside temporary refueling restrictions.
