American Airlines has unveiled seven new international routes for the 2027 summer season, announced on August 27, 2026. The carrier will add two new European destinations to its network: Porto (OPO) and Vienna (VIE), with both nonstop services operated from its Philadelphia (PHL) hub.
American will also become the only US carrier serving Vienna. In a recent exclusive interview with AeroTime, Vienna Airport CEO Julian Jäger said that attracting at least one US carrier to the Austrian capital was a route development priority.
Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland will also be added to the network, although this is more of a comeback, as American had previously served the destination before dropping it in 2019.
Both Porto and Vienna will be served by American Airlines' new Airbus A321XLR, while Keflavik will be operated by a regular A321neo, since the standard version has enough range to reach Iceland from the East Coast of the United States.
The Porto service starts March 28, 2027, while Vienna and Keflavik begin May 6 and 28, 2027, respectively. American is also leveraging the A321XLR on new routes linking New York (JFK) to Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS) and Nice-Côte d'Azur (NCE).
Barcelona (BCN) will see a new nonstop service, planned to start May 27, 2027 with a Boeing 777-200 daily. A new route from Chicago O'Hare (ORD) to Tokyo-Narita (NRT) will be operated daily with a Boeing 787-9 from March 19, 2027, and a fourth daily frequency between New York (JFK) and London-Heathrow (LHR) with B787-9s. The airline will also bring back seasonal routes, Charlotte to Paris (CDG) and Miami to Milan Malpensa (MXP), in spring 2027.
