Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) announced on August 27, 2026, that it has responded to an application from Mandarin Airlines to suspend its Kaohsiung-Hualien and Taichung-Hualien routes. After an initial review, the CAA requested additional information and asked the carrier to consider local transport needs. The CAA agreed to allow Mandarin Airlines to reduce flight frequencies when booking levels are low and reallocate capacity to domestic routes with higher demand.
Meanwhile, UNI Air has also submitted an application to the CAA to suspend its Taipei-Hualien route, which remains under evaluation. According to CAA statistics covering 2023 to 2025, load factors were 36% for Taipei-Hualien, 37% for Kaohsiung-Hualien, and 44% for Taichung-Hualien, with all three routes staying below 50%.
