A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737-500 veered off the runway after landing at Mashhad International Airport (MHD) in Iran on August 25, 2026. Flight IS4310 was arriving from Tehran Mehrabad Airport (THR) when the aircraft departed the paved surface following what officials described as a normal landing approach.
No injuries were reported among the 127 passengers and crew members on board, all of whom evacuated safely after the aircraft came to a stop. Images from the scene showed the aircraft resting nose-down in an unpaved area with its nose landing gear collapsed. The disabled aircraft prompted airport authorities to temporarily close Runway 13R and Taxiway Q at Mashhad.
Iran's Civil Aviation Organization stated that no technical issues had been reported by the flight crew prior to landing. According to official reports, the aircraft veered to the left while traveling at high speed on the runway before entering the unpaved field. Iranian aviation authorities have dispatched an investigation team to Mashhad to determine the cause of the runway excursion.
The aircraft involved in the accident is registered as EP-FSF, a Boeing 737-529 manufactured in May 1992. Originally delivered to Belgian carrier Sabena as OO-SYJ, the jet later flew for AeroSvit, Ukraine International Airlines, Riau Airlines, and Kalstar Aviation before joining Sepehran Airlines in 2016.
Iranian carriers have kept aging Western-built aircraft operational despite long-standing international restrictions that limit access to new airframes and spare parts. Sepehran operates a fleet composed mainly of Boeing 737-300 and 737-500 aircraft on domestic and regional routes. The incident occurred one day after the United States Treasury Department announced expanded economic sanctions targeting Iran's aviation sector, although Sepehran was not specifically named in that announcement.
