Foreign media reported that Paraguay is in talks with Taiwan to evaluate acquiring F-5 fighter jets and AT-3 trainer aircraft to rebuild its jet capabilities, expecting to introduce 10 to 15 aircraft starting in 2027. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded that the two governments maintain long-term cooperation across various fields, but stated it consistently does not comment on matters concerning the defense and military affairs of allies.
Taiwan's F-5 fighters were retired in July last year, while AT-3 trainer aircraft completed their final flight missions at the end of July this year, being replaced by the Brave Eagle advanced jet trainer. Experts noted that if Paraguay acquires AT-3 aircraft, it could bolster its defense capabilities, with logistics and maintenance expected to be handled by Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC).
