A Gripen fighter jet from the Hungarian Defense Forces crashed near the Szolnok military base on August 24, 2026. Prime Minister Péter Magyar confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the crash occurred "a few minutes ago."
According to the Prime Minister, the pilot was able to eject safely. Defense Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi also confirmed the crash and said the incident occurred a few minutes after 10:00 local time at the Szolnok military base.
Ruszin-Szendi said in a video message that the pilot was taken to hospital by ambulance. He added that no one else was injured in the accident.
The reasons for the crash are currently unclear, and an investigation is underway. Unverified footage of the apparent crash site has been shared on social media.
Preliminary reports indicate no damage to civilian infrastructure, according to the Prime Minister.
