Taiwan's Legislative Yuan caucuses are scheduled to hold cross-party negotiations on the draft Unmanned Vehicle Act on August 26, 2026. The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucus announced at an August 24 press conference that it will maintain its proposed bill version, stating that its statute framework supports domestic drone industry development and procurement.
Addressing budget provisions, the TPP caucus explained that its version is drafted as a general statute rather than a special statute, thereby omitting a fixed total expenditure cap. The party advocated funding drone procurement and research through regular annual government budgets, accompanied by a proposed Drone Strategic Development Committee to guide long-term planning and annual budget formulation.
Lawmakers previously convened cross-party talks on August 20 regarding the unmanned vehicle legislation. However, negotiations ended without agreement due to differences over the statutory title, governing authority, budget caps, and implementation timelines, leaving the bill retained for further deliberation.
