Following Mandarin Airlines' applications to suspend the Kaohsiung-Hualien and Taichung-Hualien routes, Uni Air has also applied to the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) to discontinue the Taipei-Hualien route. The CAA confirmed on August 17, 2026, that it has received the applications and all are under review.
Hualien County Tourism Department chief Yu Ming-hsun said the county respects the airlines' commercial considerations but will actively urge the central government not to allow a complete suspension, citing local needs.
The report noted that all three domestic routes to Hualien suffer from low load factors. Yu argued the government should consider overall national development, cross-subsidising loss-making routes with profits from profitable ones.
