Mandarin Airlines and UNI Air have each applied to the Civil Aeronautics Administration to suspend three Hualien routes: Taipei‑Hualien, Kaohsiung‑Hualien and Taichung‑Hualien.
The CAA confirmed receipt of Mandarin’s application and is reviewing it, while it has asked UNI Air to provide supplementary information for its two applications.
CAA statistics show Mandarin’s Taipei‑Hualien load factor at 24.2% for Jan‑Jun, UNI’s Taichung‑Hualien at 57.5% and Kaohsiung‑Hualien at 42%, all well below island routes.
Mandarin said northern passengers rely on ground transport, so it seeks to shift capacity to higher‑demand island routes in June.
