Taiwan's National Immigration Agency Border Affairs Corps announced that officers intercepted a Sri Lankan male passenger at Taoyuan International Airport on August 13, 2026. The passenger was attempting to transit to Toronto, Canada, using a forged Canadian passport. Immigration officials stopped him from boarding and deported him back to Singapore, his previous departure point, in accordance with international practice.

The investigation was initiated after EVA Air ground staff flagged irregularities in the passenger's travel documents and booking itinerary during transit processing. Border officers inspected the passport's security features and questioned the man, who subsequently confessed to purchasing the counterfeit document from a human smuggling syndicate for 10,000 U.S. dollars.
