US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on imported drones and components on August 13, imposing a 15 percent tariff on products from allies including Taiwan, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea. In response to the shift toward localized supply chains, Taiwanese aerospace manufacturer AIDC stated on August 14 that it will evaluate manufacturing drones at its facility in the United States if US customers request local production backed by firm orders.

To support verification, ITRI signed an agreement with the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International to evaluate Green UAS standards, while AIDC has submitted its first drone product for verification. AIDC previously noted that its US plant is scheduled to complete aerospace quality verification this year to begin producing engine parts.
