United Airlines is deliberately removing 35 seats from its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft operating on long-haul routes out of Houston. The seating modification adjusts the cabin layout for long-haul operations.

Although removing the seats reduces overall seating capacity on the aircraft, it expands premium offerings on these routes. The operational adjustment focuses on increasing lucrative premium seating capacity for passengers on long-haul flights.

According to verified industry records, the Boeing 787-9 is leading widebody aircraft deliveries in 2026. Deliveries of the Boeing 787-9 model are also accelerating the retirement of three older aircraft types across four airlines.
