Travelers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport recently observed that the passport autogate signboard now identifies Taiwan using the designation TWN alongside flag icons of other eligible countries, though the Republic of China flag remains absent.
Malaysia expanded its autogate immigration facilities in June 2024 to include visitors from 36 low-risk countries and regions, including Taiwan. In December 2024, the Republic of China flag on the airport's signboards was covered, with Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarifying at the time that Taiwanese travelers retained autogate eligibility.
Central News Agency contacted Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kuala Lumpur International Airport on August 12, 2026, regarding the signage adjustments, but received no response at the time of reporting.
